There’s an undeniable magic in having creative genes. In my family, talent flourishes in various forms. From my graceful cousins, who are accomplished ballerinas teaching or performing in prestigious companies across cities like Chicago, to my grandfather, who authored a novel in Cuba before our family’s immigration, and my grandmother, who has wielded a paintbrush for as long as my memories stretch. I can still vividly recall her taking me to art classes in the bustling backyards of Little Havana, where we had to be mindful of the fluttering material as the fans whirred around us.
Growing up surrounded by such artistic influences, I’ve been fortunate to develop a range of skills and talents. While I don’t profess to be the next Annie Leibovitz or Maya Angelou, I do claim a fervent desire to contribute to the world’s beauty.
